{French Kitchen Table and Chairs}

First I want to apologize for so many pictures....I think it might have something to do with the fact that I'm just too excited to post about this kitchen set, that I'm keeping!

If you can picture it, it started as this.  Sorry, once again I forgot to take a before shot of the entire set.  I blame it on pregnancy, wait a minute....that doesn't work, I'm not pregnant.  I'll think of something to blame it on here in a minute.  It reaked of smoke, yuck!  So unfortunately I had to buy new foam.  Foam is expensive.  70 bucks on foam was a bit of a buzz kill, seeing that I bought the entire set for 40!  Oh well, I had no choice, so I bit the bullet.  I do have to say the cushions are very comfortable, they better be for 70 bucks!!  Bye bye yucky, stinky, orange fabric.

And ta-da.  Magically It's all finished.  I wish it were that easy ;)  I painted it 'Antique White' from Behr.  I love the color, it's not too creamy yellow and it's not too bright white.  Perfect.  I spent a couple hours at Joann's picking out fabric, I think I am the most indecisive person I know!  My poor 9 year old about died!!  I wanted something dark because heaven knows we have lots of kids!  I didn't want all my hard work to be ruined in the first week with stains and spills.  Hopefully I picked a good one.
See, I'm still ho-humming about it!

So on with my picture roll, sorry if I bore you to death!

And there's my little man.  He's the biggest culprit of stains and spills.  Bless his sweet little heart.

  2. This set turned out awesome!! I hope the fabric works out for you - your son and my hubby are in the same boat. I think he sheds a tear every time I ask to go to Joanns! Couldn't you just look at their fabric for hours!

  5. Hi Julie! Would you believe that my chairs even had the exact same ugly fabric? (lol!)
    Your makeover is absolutely stunning! Love, love the way it turned out. I'm so glad you decided to keep it for yourself!
    Have a great week!

  6. Julie I have the exact same set of chairs and would you believe that my original fabric is red velvet. Well red just do it for me so I loaded the chairs in my van last night ready to take to the auctions today. Then lo and behold I see your post. I think I will take the time to get them back out of my van and re-upholster the seats. I have already painted them white but just lost vision somewhere. You have restored that now so I am off to the fabric shop. Will leave my 9 year old home though. ha ha have a good day Sandy xx

  7. WOW- the set is amazing - and don't fret over not taking the before shot - you have one on your July 17 post. What did you seal the top with? I just painted a small table white but am unsure of a sealer to use - afraid it might turn yellow.

  9. I love it! I also love the fabric you used, I have it on my dining room chairs I redid years ago. I was actually thinking of painting my dining table and leaving my chairs stained do you think that would look weird?

  13. Fabulous darling! AHH! I want to finish my table SO bad! I think I have finally decided what I am going to do with mine. I love seeing your character come out in this set. That is the best thing about refinishing your own furniture, its a little piece of you. It makes me think that you like things bright & clean (but not too clean so people feel comfortable and welcome), and you are family oriented because of the size/number of chairs. yep, love it!
