This sweet little thing was so fun to work on! I love working on antiques, can I say that enough?!
It started like this, what is up with those knobs? The guy I bought it from had some fancy name for them, like they were something special, who knows maybe they are. All I know is they were butt ugly!
It was hard (once again) to get an accurate colored picture. Why is that? I swear I look at all your fabulous blogs from all you talented women, how do you photograph everything so well?! I'm serious. Well anyhoo, it's a mustard yellow in case you can't tell.
The knobs went into the garbage, hopefully I didn't just give anyone a heart attack. In place I added my special glass knobs. Maybe they were worth a lot, but I wasn't about to leave them on and find out...I think I'm the most impatient person I know. I painted this Golden Bounty. I'm pretty sure that's the name of it, I'm too lazy to get up and look in my garage.
After I painted and distressed it, I added some glaze. I felt like it needed something extra and to tone down the yellow a bit.
And if it wasn't cute enough (haha), I added some fabric lining.
Look at this little keyhole. How fun is that?
Another piece down, about 10 more to go.... who am I kidding it's never ending. But I love it!
Wonderful job! Yellow is very hard to photograph. Love the fabric lining...it is so cheerful now!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute dresser!
ReplyDeleteThe yellow is lovely! I think that's the color I have in mind for my next chest of drawers.
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful! Those bakelite art deco style pulls are worth a fortune! Did you really throw them away? You should sell them on Ebay. Or sell them to me! ;)
ReplyDeleteLove it! The new knobs looks so perfect and the lining is icing on the cake!
ReplyDeletethat is beautiful! love the color and distressing and thinking i need to paint something yellow!
ReplyDeletelove it julie! love the retro fabric too!
ReplyDeleteThis piece turned out great! Loving the yellow... I need to be braver with colors like that. :)
ReplyDeletegreat job! and the fabric in the drawers -- love it even more! how do you attach the fabric?? would love to do that to a buffet piece i need to refinish
I love this Julie!! It turned out so good!! Love the fabric in the drawers too!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, I LOVE the inside of the drawers! You have a really great blog~
ReplyDeleteStumbled onto your blog quite by accident but I am loving all the furniture you have redone. To get the look you have on this particular piece of furniture do you wipe some of the paint off before it dries? I will be checking here regularly to see what else you have done.
ReplyDeleteThe piece is cute, and the color is perfect! BUT...I am crying over the knobs! Those vintage Bakelite knobs are very hard to find, and are sought after for Art Deco pieces being restored to original condition. You could have probably sold them for more than you paid for the furniture!
ReplyDeleteLove the yellow & the glass knobs but thought I'd let you know... all of the ugly handles & knobs that often come with a piece can sometimes fetch you back more than what you actually paid for the piece in the first place! I know this because I sell all of mine... believe it or not people WANT those uglies & are prepared to pay
